Tile forms allow 8–11 words per the founder's de-cryptifying instruction. Full evidence per mined item: `docs/research/constellation-candidates.md`.\n\n## The structural discernment: three species, not two\n\n- **Convictions** — beliefs about the world; indicative mood; lose to evidence.\n- **Principles** — product policies; imperative mood; lose to regret; each SERVES a named conviction (principle = conviction × context).\n- **Working methods** — how the PROJECT is governed (ontology-primary, substance-over-meta testing, born-private, audience-matching, fallible-priors, beginner-first-as-directive). These are real but belong to CLAUDE.md, not the constellation: a visitor meets the artifact, not the workshop. Marked [method] below and excluded from the star field by default.\n\n## The derivation tree (the constellation's edges)\n\n**ROOT — Opacity is a cost, not a mystery** → *\"Why anyone believes anything is findable, at a price.\"*\nEverything below descends from it through four branches.\n\n### Branch 1 — What's at the bottom (the wager cluster)\n- **The wager**: *\"Dig deep enough and most disagreement dissolves. The hover carries the mechanism: they feed each other, the way prediction needs error and the whole needs the detail; the biology is in [coupling-the-poles.md](../../research/coupling-the-poles.md).\n- **Exposure**: *\"Being vague is safe. We're making clarity pay.\"* [C→P pair] — RULED 2026-08-20 (founder: \"I'm ok with your star three rec. Can always come back to it later.\"). The payment register: the courage register contradicted the home doc (a commons requiring bravery stays small), the correction register (\"your arguments are already public, here they become correctable\") is recorded as the tile's likely evolution once supply-side ingestion is real. Hover carries the exposure-inversion story + the eight conditions where legibility pays.\n- **The asymmetry**: *\"Supporting is easy; attacking well is a gift.\"* [C] — RULED 2026-08-21, the CARE register (founder verbatim on the chess-friend framing: \"I love this, let's go with the care reading\"). The tile keeps its wording; what's ruled is what \"gift\" means on first read: a gift TO THE PERSON ATTACKED. Hover canon: the chess-friend example verbatim (\"like a chess friend who points out the flaw in your favorite opening before the tournament — that stings for a second and is worth more than ten compliments\"), the culture promise (\"in here, being sharply challenged is being cared for\"), rigor-delivered-as-warmth as the quiet analysis-attunement instance; the ECONOMICS (attacks undersupplied, run-5's 14-supports-0-attacks, the ratio confession) goes second in the hover, and deliberately does NOT lead — star three already carries the incentives register next door.\n- **The library test**: *\"You never owe us a contribution.\"* [P — a VOW, promise-to-you register] — RULED 2026-08-21 (founder: \"is great, let's go with that, I agree with your reasoning\"). Re-registered from about-us statement to visitor-facing promise; the old wording (\"A reader who never contributes is a success\") moves INTO the hover as the measurement half. Hover canon: the library/Wikipedia backdrop (nobody at the library door asks when you'll write a book), the anti-nag scope (no streaks, no guilt, no conversion funnels; contribution channels are OFFERED, never extracted — one-tap votes stay legitimate as offers), and the honest limit from lowering-the-cost §the-rejected-uplift-frame: the library analogy settles the UNIT OF VALUE, it does not exempt the artifact from having to be good. Typing note: the vow is a principle (loses to regret), grown from the gradient conviction.\n- **Distribution**: *\"Reasoning you don't structure gets summarized by someone else.\"* [C] — RULED 2026-08-21, warning register KEPT and sharpened mandate (founder: \"Yeah I want more teeth not less, actually. I want incentives-based CTAs even if it's just hypothetical incentives at this point\"). Hover canon: the everyday version (if you don't write your bio, Google writes it for you), the AI-mediated-discourse fact (assistants answer from whatever is structured and addressable; unstructured positions arrive as someone else's paraphrase), the measured version (one side's rendering of the other routinely beats what that side actually said — why always-mint makes straw-manning detectable). This ruling also set a STANDING COPY DIRECTION — see CLAUDE.md § Teeth and Confidence in Public Copy.\n- **Trust the process → renamed \"Show the work\"**: *\"You don't have to trust us. Re-registered from trust-our-process (borrowed authority, sports-cliché adjacent) to needn't-trust-ANYONE-including-us: the confession machinery's true delivery, and the only version a skeptic can't roll eyes at because it hands them the check instead of the claim. The founder strikes down to ~20–24. Two visual species (indicative convictions, imperative principles); edges = the derivation lines above, drawn faint.\n\n## Refinement round — protocol + branch-4 weighting (2026-08-19/20)\n\n**Founder weighting**: branch 4 (the people in it) deserves extra attention — humans first, even though agents grow as readers and the UI skews toward motivated users. Independently supported by the cross-scale sweep §2.7: attunement's biological instances all require CO-PRESENCE, so the human-facing surfaces may be the only place half the dialectic can run at all.\n\n**Protocol (one star per exchange, founder is arbiter)**: per star Claude brings (a) the ORIGIN — where in the corpus, whose words, what year; (b) the cross-scale verdict + any unmet CONDITION from convictions-across-scales (a star must not claim a condition we haven't met — the confession principle applied to the constellation itself); (c) the current tile + 1-2 alternates, mining the founder's own verbatims first (vision.md's ratified text is tile-grade: \"A mystery you contemplate. A cost you lower.\"); (d) its relations in the tree; (e) ONE refinement question. Tile-crafting is governed by the founder's own ratified naming criterion (fractal-scales § The naming decision): *\"Complex principles should be as near self explanatory as possible\"* — a name that must be learned taxes every reader.\n\n**Order**: root first (everything below inherits its refinement), then branch 4 (the founder's weighting), then 1-3.\n\n**Reading state before the round** (per the founder's read-everything instruction): fully read this arc — convictions-across-scales, constellation-candidates, vision.md, fractal-scales-and-temporal-frame, islands-of-coherence, site-declutter-directions, retrieval-instruments, the voice/style guides. Read-at-star (the remaining seven keyword docs + each candidate's home doc): each gets its full read when its star comes up — deepest reading at point of use.\n\n\n## Open loop: the reading queue + the voice-provenance caution (2026-08-20)\n\n**Star one (the root) — RULED 2026-08-20: the PROMISE register.** Founder verbatim: *\"This is definitely a promise/conviction, not just a distinction. It's also for me implicitly holding a bet that it's worth investing in lowering the cost. Of course.\"* Root tile: **\"The distance between two minds is traversable.\"** (grade-2 provenance, ratified) — the mystery/cost distinction moves to the hover. **The embedded-bet insight is structural**: the root conviction quietly carries a WORTHWHILENESS bet — not only \"findable\" but \"worth the investment of finding\" — which is the thread that ties the root to the wager branch (what's down there) AND to the incentive branch (who pays, and why it pays them). The hover should state the bet honestly; it is part of why the root is a conviction and not a theorem. Star two (the dialectic) RULED 2026-08-20 — see the branch-4 list above (interim wording, alternates recorded, mechanism in coupling-the-poles.md). Already fully read this arc: convictions-across-scales, constellation-candidates, vision.md, fractal-scales-and-temporal-frame, islands-of-coherence, site-declutter-directions, retrieval-instruments-beyond-cosine, the voice/style guides.\n\n**⚠ Voice-provenance caution (founder correction, 2026-08-20, verbatim)**: *\"sometimes 'my prose' isn't 'my prose' as I often author documents in close collaboration with you Claude, or other AIs... we just need to keep that in mind to be careful what you assume is my voice/words.\"* Consequence for tile-mining and all voice-pass work: **corpus doc prose is collaboratively authored by default** — ratified CONTENT, blended VOICE. Three provenance grades: (1) founder-verbatim = quoted speech/messages only (the substans doc's provenance table governs); (2) doc prose = founder-ratified, co-authored — usable as tiles but never presented as \"his own words\"; (3) Claude-drafted-pending-review. When a tile's warmth depends on being HIS voice, verify grade 1 or say grade 2 honestly. (Applied retroactively: \"A mystery you contemplate. A cost you lower.\" is grade 2; \"traversable, solvable mystery\" is grade 1.)\n"}
