This document records what the three found JOINTLY that no single pass states, verifies the one claim that alleged a live code bug, and separates the founder decisions from the buildable fixes. It joins the standing [convergence-wager-red-team.md](convergence-wager-red-team.md).*\n\n## The three convergences\n\nThe passes were briefed separately and did not see each other's work. Three findings surfaced in two or three of them independently, which is the strongest signal in the whole exercise: a hole two adversaries reach from different starting points is not an artifact of one agent's framing.\n\n### Convergence 1: the sacredness brake is the load-bearing exploitable seam (all three)\n\nEvery pass arrived at the sacredness brake, from a different direction:\n\n- **Power pass**: the brake creates a \"declare-it-sacred immunity gradient.\" Sacred status is self-declared at zero cost, so it structurally advantages sacred-register ideologies over tradeoff-register ones: anyone can immunize a claim from scrutiny by asserting it is a protected value.\n- **Philosophy pass**: the brake \"is an implemented gesture toward hinge-respect, but it is UX-level politeness, not taxonomy-level representation: the platform can decline to dissect a hinge while still lacking any way to say that a leaf IS one.\"\n- **Synthesis pass**: the brake contradicts the completeness oracle. The oracle publicly flags a value premise as an unsupported \"copout axiom\" on exactly the nodes the brake forbids decomposing.\n\n**The synthesis claim was code-verified (July 10).** `deliberus/completeness.py` (lines 95-98) appends every unsupported `value_premise` to `unsupported_value_premises` with the comment \"the copout axiom the whole project exists to surface,\" and the file contains no reference to `weighing_state`, `sacred`, `invited`, or any brake state: the oracle is blind to the brake. `deliberus/agent_readable.py` (line 264) renders that flag onto the public agent-readable surface. So the platform publicly prints \"asserted value with no support, decompose this\" on the very nodes it has promised never to decompose uninvited. This ships today.\n\n**The convergent fix the three passes jointly imply**: the brake must become a first-class GRAPH STATE, not only a behavior. A braked node needs a challengeable marker on the graph (\"this leaf is a protected/hinge commitment, declined for decomposition by its holder\"). That single change resolves all three findings at once: the oracle reads the marker; the immunity gradient gets a challengeable handle (one can argue a leaf is not really sacred, preserving no-copout-axioms at the meta level); and the taxonomy gains the representational capacity the philosophy pass says it lacks. This is an ontology change, so it is a founder decision, not an autonomous edit. It is the single highest-leverage design response to the whole red-team exercise.\n\n**Founder deliberation update (Jul 10)**: the founder opened the brake's standing the same day, leaning HARDER than this synthesis assumed: sacredness is often arrested inquiry (safety through halted thought), the brake is overrated as protection, and the platform must not inherit humanity's premature stopping. That lean flips the oracle-fix direction: rather than silencing the flag on braked nodes, the oracle keeps flagging with a *differentiated voice* (\"undecomposed by choice, examination declined, invitations outstanding\"), so the stop stays legible as a stop rather than disguised as a bottom; declined-descent becomes a lifecycle state and never a residue type; any hinge/bedrock residue type requires an effort certificate (moves-tried metadata); and the pseudo-sacred fraction (braked nodes later opened, and what the descents found) becomes a measurable instrument, making \"sacredness is overrated\" itself a falsifiable platform prediction. The re-scope is deliberated, not yet ratified: the full statement and the Tetlock-backfire counterweight are recorded in the [weighing design doc's Jul-10 addendum](weighing-scheme-and-terminus-classifier-design.md).\n\n### Convergence 2: the wager's falsifiability is attackable by accounting (philosophy + synthesis)\n\n- **Philosophy pass**: \"a wager whose accounting treats every ceiling as unfinished decomposition cannot lose, so it is not a wager.\" Fogelin's 1985 thesis (\"deep disagreements cannot be resolved through the use of argument, for they undercut the conditions essential to arguing\") plus Chang-style parity and permissivism termini are principled convergence CEILINGS. If the residue map scores every ceiling as \"pending further decomposition,\" the wager is unfalsifiable by construction.\n- **Synthesis pass**: the same worry as Lakatosian degeneration: the wager has survived by reformulation (values-converge, then legibility-floor-plus-convergence-wager, then typed-residues), and \"the wager-reformulation series has no ledger.\" A research programme that absorbs every disconfirmation by reformulating is degenerating, not progressing, unless the reformulations are tracked and make new confirmed predictions.\n\nBoth point at the same defense: **hinge-clash, parity, and permissivism termini must count AGAINST convergence, not as work remaining**, and the reformulation series needs an explicit ledger. This is load-bearing beyond philosophy: falsifiability is a headline claim in the funding applications and in [convergence.md](../convergence.md). The honest version is stronger than the overclaim, and it is now woven into convergence.md's disproof section.\n\n### Convergence 3: the operator-reflexivity gap / missing epistemic constitution (power + synthesis)\n\n- **Power pass**: \"the Legibility Rule doesn't govern the platform's own constitutive moves (taxonomies, semantics, prompts live unchallengeably in code); no epistemic constitution, no data-portability, solo point of capture.\"\n- **Synthesis pass**: the self-reference tower (claims to verdicts to verdict-claims to instruments to rules to founder) \"terminates in an un-audited governance level\"; and the epistemic constitution is \"demanded verbatim by three documents ('publish the kernel'), written nowhere.\"\n\nThe platform applies \"make it a challengeable claim\" at every level except its own constitution. The QEM choice, the four-type taxonomy, the extraction prompts, the Legibility Rule itself: all live in code, none is a graph object anyone can attack. This is the un-audited top of the self-reference tower. Writing the epistemic constitution (the Legibility Rule plus the sacredness brake plus no-copout-axioms as one governing, challengeable document) is the response, and it is a founder act.\n\n## The single sharpest finding\n\nIf only one thing is read from all three docs, it is the philosophy pass's falsifiability verdict, because it threatens a claim the project makes to funders and to itself. The response is not defensive: a residue map that can score the wager as LOSING is a more credible instrument than one that cannot, and the amended accounting (ceilings count against convergence) is what gives it that power. The wager becomes real precisely by being able to fail. See convergence.md.\n\n## Buildable counter-instruments (not founder decisions)\n\nThe power pass notes that eight of its ten holes convert to buildable counter-instruments; the philosophy pass lists concrete graph-structure demands. The ones that are engineering, not ontology:\n\n- **Coordination/sybil defense**: no source-independence check exists at any layer; auto-connect turns an astroturfed corpus into a clean-provenance evidence cluster. The Community Notes precedent the project leaned on now has a published bad-rater suppression attack. An independence-of-sources signal is buildable.\n- **Uptake instrument** (Longino condition 2): a platform whose criticism changes nothing looks identical to one that works. There is no metric for whether a challenge actually moved anything. Buildable.\n- **Re-decomposition stability check**: the named defense against obfuscated arguments (error spread thin across many barely-checkable subclaims) is unbuilt.\n- **Undercutting / context-bound edges** (Dancy holism): a reason's valence is context-fixed, but edges freeze it and auto-connect exports it. The AIF undercut-the-inference feature the platform dropped is the standard answer.\n- **Cycle and non-transitivity surfacing** (coherentism, Temkin): QEM's leaf-base scores compute like bedrock and its cycle guarantees are only empirical; a cycle detector and a documented commensuration are the asks.\n\n## The two holes that are permanent political choices, not bugs\n\nThe power pass is explicit that two holes do not convert to counter-instruments and must be named as standing choices:\n\n- **Attention asymmetry**: whoever has time and articulacy to answer critical questions wins; Sanders's and Young's critique of deliberation recurs at the badge layer, where QBAF certifies answering-resources as epistemic quality.\n- **Authority asymmetry**: \"challengeable by whom\" is never answered. Every fix is \"make it a challengeable claim,\" and nothing says who adjudicates.\n\nThese are disclosed, not solved. Honesty about them is the only available integrity move, and it belongs in the funder-facing materials as a limits section, not buried.\n\n## Founder decisions surfaced (ranked)\n\n1. **Brake-as-graph-state** (convergence 1): make the sacredness brake a first-class challengeable node marker so the oracle stops contradicting it and the immunity gradient gets a handle. Highest leverage; resolves three findings.\n2. **Amended wager accounting** (convergence 2): ratify that hinge/parity/permissivism ceilings count against convergence, and start the reformulation ledger. Protects the falsifiability claim.\n3. **The epistemic constitution** (convergence 3): write the three-gate admission system (Legibility Rule, brake, no-copout-axioms) as one governing, challengeable document. Demanded by three prior docs already.\n4. **A fifth residue type**: hinge commitment / bedrock practice (Wittgenstein, Fogelin), unchosen and not a merit relation, so distinct from all four current types; plus the Chang split of the permissive zone into parity / indeterminacy / incomparability / permissivism.\n5. **Rename the hinge score**: it measures QBAF sensitivity (which nodes most move a conclusion), close to the opposite of a Wittgensteinian hinge (which no argument moves). A pure naming collision, cheap to fix.\n\n## What survives\n\nAll three passes end at the same place: the design's existing answers (the inversion principle, the provenance split, challengeable verdicts, the confession culture, the fallible-fixed-point framing) are genuinely ahead of the field, and most holes convert to buildable instruments rather than refutations. The project's own norm is that a hole with no current answer gets said plainly; these three documents say many plainly, and the platform is stronger for having generated the attacks on itself than any competitor that has not.\n"}
