When you view a problem, you see all reasons for/against — not a chronological thread.\n\n**Self-organization**: The agenda/structure is created democratically BY participants, not imposed. Any participant can add any message type. Prominence comes from votes. \"This provides a highly detailed organization of the collective decisions without sacrificing democratic legitimacy.\"\n\n**Scale solution**: With decision structure, coherence is decision-specific, not global. Users can make coherent contributions to ONE part \"based only on knowledge of the status of that part and its relationship to the whole, without being aware of the internal details of other parts.\" This is essentially a **divide-and-conquer** approach to deliberation coherence.\n\n**The \"true promise of the Internet\"** (concluding insight): \"lies not merely in its ability to bring large numbers of people INTO 'one room' but in its ability to structure that room in ways that no physical room could be structured.\"\n\n**Relevance to Deliberus**: HeadsTogether is the closest direct precursor to Deliberus in the academic literature. The decision-hierarchy model maps almost exactly to Deliberus's argument bundles (problems → solutions → reasons → evidence). The key difference: HeadsTogether requires users to manually specify message types and relationships. Deliberus would use LLMs to auto-classify and auto-link. HeadsTogether also lacks probabilistic reasoning, formal argumentation semantics, and visualization — all of which Deliberus adds. But the CORE INSIGHT — decision-specific coherence through typed, linked messages — is identical.\n\n---\n\n## Ch. 29: Design Requirements for Argument Mapping Software (Easterday, Kanarek, Harrell)\n\nComparative usability evaluation of argument mapping tools in an introductory university philosophy course.
