{"path":"research/corpus-graph/reader_brief_part_two_the_judging_direction.md","content":"# The second task for a reader of new or grown notes: the judging direction\n\n`plan_readings.py --brief N --judging` appends the text below the line to the brief every reader has\nhad (`reader_brief.md`), which stays word for word what the widening used. It exists because every\nreader of the first fill was sent to the note being judged and never to the note that judges\n([README](README.md) § 17, § 20.3). For an old note that was a loss. For a new note it is the larger\nhalf: what the new note changes in older notes is found only by reading from the new note outward.\n\nProposed 2026-10-11 and not yet run. The first run is its test: the prediction is written beside the\nrun, before the reader returns.\n\n---\nSECOND TASK, after the first is done, for the same notes. It has its own findings, numbered on from the\nfirst task's, at most ten more.\n\nGo through each of your notes again and list for yourself every place where the note SETTLES or CHANGES\nsomething: a founder ruling it records (RULED, BLESSED, \"founder:\", a quoted italic sentence), a\nmeasurement it reports with a number, a correction it makes (⚠, corrected, withdrawn, superseded, no\nlonger), a name it replaces with another, a thing it says is now built or is now retired.\n\nFor each such place, search the REST of the corpus (the other notes under docs/, the pages directly\nunder docs/, the files under specs/, README.md, and the code where the note is about code) for passages\nthat still state the earlier version: the old figure, the old name, the position the ruling replaced,\nthe plan that was since built or dropped. Search by what the older passage would have SAID, in the words\nof its day, and not by your note's words. A passage that already carries a dated mark of the change, or\nthat names your note beside the claim, does not count.\n\nReport each in the same block format as the first task, with the two ends placed this way:\n\n- `target`: the OLDER passage, in the other file, that still states the earlier version;\n- `older`: the passage in YOUR note that settles or changes it (the field keeps its name for the\n  program that checks the quotes; here it holds the newer passage);\n- `kind`: one of later-correction | already-answers | narrows | contradicts;\n- `why`: what the older passage says, what your note settled and when, and what a reader of the older\n  passage would do wrongly for not knowing it.\n\nThe same rules for quotes apply. If a place in your note changes nothing that any other file still\nstates, say so in one line at the end, with what you searched for: `nothing found for: <the place>, searched: <words>`.\nThose lines are read, since a search that found nothing looks the same as a search not made.\n"}
